Meet Our Board of Directors
The Board of Directors serves to guarantee that the school runs well and provides continuity of vision and purpose for the school. The BRMS Board of Directors is comprised of 7 working members, and is a permanent governing body that sets policy, establishes priorities, and direction for the school. The BRMS Board consists of an Executive Committee, comprised of the President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer, and minimum of three general members that serve as committee chairs. The Board also includes Montessori advisors (the Head of School and school Directors). The full board meets quarterly at a minimum and more often as necessary; all parents and teachers are welcome to attend.
President – Dr. Michael Cook
Dr. Cook is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and graduated from Ross University School of Medicine. He did his residency at the Lynchburg Family Practice Residency program. He served as Chief Resident there and is also a Fellow in the American Academy of Family Practice. Specialties of his are hyperbaric medicine and wound care. He serves as the Medical Director of the Centra Health Wound Care and Hyperbarics Center. Dr. Cook lives in Forest, VA with his wife Becky and 5 children. Dr. Cook is a parent alumni of BRMS, and he is a huge supporter of BRMS and its Mission to provide quality Montessori to the Bedford /Lynchburg area. In his spare time, he enjoys flying and golf.
Vice-President – Tom Taylor
Tom Taylor is originally from New York and went to Wagner College on Staten Island, majoring in Psychology. After college he was introduced to the Montessori Method at the AMI training center in Miami, Fl. After finishing his AMI certification he moved his family to the Bedford area. In the fall of 1985 founded Blue Ridge Montessori School in the fall of 1985. Tom was married for over 35 years, but unfortunately lost his wife in 2014 to ovarian cancer. He has a daughter who is married and lives in Washington D.C. He is excited to see the school continue to fulfill its mission and continue to grow and prosper.
Treasurer – Dianne Martin
Dianne Burford Martin is Vice President and partner of The Jefferson CPA Group, Ltd. in Lynchburg, VA. Jefferson CPA Group has enjoyed success in Forest since 2006. She is married and has 3 grown sons. In her spare time she is novice beekeeper with her husband Steve, and enjoys volunteering at The Lynchburg Humane Society.
Secretary – Dr. Domenica Favero
Dr. Favero (VCPCP, 2002) is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with a specialty in Child and Adolescent Psychology. She joined the faculty at Lynchburg College in 2011 after practicing in the Lynchburg area for several years. She is currently an assistant professor and has two children. She is an alumni parent of BRMS.
General Member – Dr. Daniel D. Morrell
Originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania , Dr. Morrell currently provides home health care services as an occupational therapist throughout Bedford County, Virginia. He earned an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pennsylvania in 1991. He later continued to earn a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Psychology in 1997 from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and went on to earn his Master’s/Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 2000. Dr. Morrell has over 16 years’ experience as an occupational therapist with a passion for Geriatric and Physical Disability Rehabilitation, as well as, specialty training in Cardiopulmonary, Vestibular, and Stroke Rehabilitation. Dr. Morell is married with a young daughter, who is a current student at BRMS.
